Death & Cupcakes
Navigating the holidays
and the grief journey
In our culture, we often walk backward into death—avoiding the conversation until we have no choice but to face it.
While there is no roadmap for grief, finding different ways to cope can be an important part of the healing process. This is especially true during the holidays, when feelings of loneliness can intensify. That’s why being in community reminds us that we are not alone. When we come together, we create space not only for grief but also for resilience, hope, and renewal.
Facilitated by heart2heartnc director Cathy Brooksie Edwards, with live music by musician Amy Durso, Death & Cupcakes provides a safe space to ask questions, share your story, be witnessed, sit quietly in the present time, and listen to one another's experiences with compassion and curiosity. In addition to encouraging open and honest dialogue about grief, loss, and life transitions, there will be short periods of mindfulness meditation and, of course, cupcakes.
We hope you will join us as we bring light to a topic too often left in the shadows and find strength in collective wisdom during life's most difficult transitions.

About Death Cafes
Death & Cupcakes is heart2heart's interpretation of Death Cafes, a global movement born from the writings of Bernard Crettaz, a Swiss sociologist who believes talking about death leads to authenticity. At a Death Cafe, the community gathers to discuss life and death, with a serving of tea and cake. The objective is to raise awareness through open conversation about a topic that remains taboo. The idea is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of our (finite) lives.” Death Cafes are not-for-profit and there is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action. Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness.
It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift.”
